TH-PVP, 3′,4′-tetramethylene-α-PVP and 3′,4′-tetramethylene-α-Pyrrolidinovalerophenone. It is a stimulant compound of the substituted cathinone class.
TH-A-PVP has the systematic and formal IUPAC name 2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)-1-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-yl)pentan-1-one, monohydrochloride. It has a relative molar mass of 321.9 grams and has the empirical chemical formula C19H27NO.
It may be described as an analogue of α-PVP. TH-A-PVP differs in structure from α-PVP by having a hexane ring fused to the aryl ring of α-PVP. It can also be described as an unsaturated analogue of the stimulant naphyrone.
There is little recorded human use of TH-A-PVP. It is a stimulant that excites the nervous system and increased physiological function such as increasing heart rate. The cathinone class of compounds to which it belongs are known to be habit forming substances that can cause compulsive re-dosing.
The substituted cathinones all bear a structural relation to the natural alkaloid cathinone. Cathinone is found in the leaves of the plant Catha edulis which is native to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Fresh leaves of this plant are chewed and go by the name Khat. Khat has a long history of recorded use in the Middle East going back over two hundred years.
The synthetic substituted cathinones have emerged in recent times. As early as the 1930s however the synthetic substituted cathinone methcathinone was being used as an anti-depressant in the Soviet Union. It was then later abused as a recreational drug in the 1970s and 1980s in the Soviet Union and in the 1990s in the United States.
In Germany between 1997 and 2004 six new pyrrole cathinones emerged. This is the class of cathinones to which TH-A-PVP belongs. The late noughties then saw a surge in the popularity of this class of compounds due to their legality at the time and the relative lack of quality MDMA or cocaine in the recreational drug market.
4MMC in particular became widely popular in the UK in 2009. Since this time there has been legislation banning these compounds and so laboratories have been working on ever more structurally related compounds in an attempt to by-pass legislation in countries which do not have blanket bans on analogue compounds.
There is no credible scientific information available on the long term health implications of consuming TH-A-PVP. There are no toxicological studies of this compound.
TH-A-PVP is not fit for animal or human consumption.
There are few credible verifiable online reports of usage. Some report mild stimulatory effects similar to MDPV and alpha-PVP.
The pyrovalerone cathinones such as MDPV and alpha-PVP have reported subjective properties distinct from other cathinones such as 4MMC. MDPV for example is notorious for increasing the users sexual thoughts. It is also known for its propensity to make the user compulsively redose and to induce states of paranoia and delusion.
It is worth noting that prolonged use of cathinone stimulants or acute binging may induce psychotic states in users.
It is not advisable to mix TH-A-PVP with MAOI anti-depressant as this may cause a hypertensive crisis. Mixture of cathinone stimulants with Tramadol is also dangerous as it increased the potential for seizure.
